New to forum with major issue
I am new to this for so a quick hello first!
I have had my 2006 2.0tdi estate since last April. I bought it with 115000 miles on it and it now has 130000 miles on it.
My car died this morning on the way to the dealer!
Coming down the motorway all seemed well when it just suddenly lost all power then stalled. No power steering or anything. Rolled onto the snow covered hard shoulder, tried to restart and it failed. Called recovery and they were able to take me to the dealer. The ironic thing is that I was on my way to the dealer anyway to get serviced!
They recon it will be either the fuel pump or the injectors. On top of that the park brake is broken, the back door won't open and they just rang to say they have broken the back rest on my driver seat. Crapy day all round then!
There was a link on the other forum I was on to this one about other people that had similar issues butt can't get it to work and can't seem to find it.
Please help before the dealer rips me off!!
Re: New to forum with major issue
Ask them to do a scan and give you the results. If you post the results on here people may be able to give you advice. Many things can cause a sudden cut out like you had.
Re: New to forum with major issue
Sounds like an expensive time at the dealer - did you try the old battery disconnect trick?
Re: New to forum with major issue
When I tried to restart there was no diesel goin to the engine. Was just ticking over but not starting. However, after it had stalled there was no error on the dash to say anything was wrong
Re: New to forum with major issue
Some electrical faults and mechanical faults don't show on the dash that's why you need a code read.

seems odd that the garage have gone for 2 of the most expensive causes.
I can't see all injectors giving up at exactly the same time, I'd question that cause of failure. Likewise for the fuel pump, surely some stuttering would be experienced before cut-out.
Looking at your mileage and age of car, I'm leaning more towards a possible cambelt failure. Were any noises heard prior to the engine failure? Was there any excess oil residue anywhere? Did you notice any smoke?
Re: New to forum with major issue
If no diesel's getting to the car, then that could be a pump failure - do you know if it's had the recall done?
And it doesn't seem odd that the garage has gone for the big money - sounds like shameless opportunism...
Re: New to forum with major issue
Tandem pump replacement isnt that much of an expensive job. Nor is an injector fault.
Its not like they are saying the engine needs replacing!
Let us know what they think you need done........

would you like to define your idea of expensive? I've yet to come across a 'cheap' injector replacement?

VW will not offer me any "good will" discount on the car cause of it's mileage. They also said they don't get codes, just the explanation of what was wrong. They've also told me it needs new pads on the front and a software update for the park brake switch. It's a very expensive day for me!
