Golf V5 VAG COM Errors - Cold Start Judder
Hi
Have just purchased a 1999 Golf V5 Auto and recently on cold wet mornings it struggles with power in low revs 1000-2000. When I accelerate when the engine is cold it judders / stutters before finally the power is delivered in a rush. It also splutters on tick over.
When the engine is warm its smooth and acceleration is perfect.
Has anyone got any idea what the problem might be before I start throwing money away guessing. Please bear in mind I am not mechanically minded, so keep it simple please!
Any help most welcome.
Have just go my VAG COM cable and have scanned for errors:

Re: Golf V5 VAG COM Errors - Cold Start Judder
Have now cleared my error codes and rescanned after a weeks driving and no errors have re-occured.
I still get a judder/stutter and loss of power between 1000/2000 revs when the engine is cold.
Its worse when its wet, but always goes one the engine is warmed up after 10/20 miles.
Any one any ideas?
Re: Golf V5 VAG COM Errors - Cold Start Judder
Try changing the coolant temp sensor.
Re: Golf V5 VAG COM Errors - Cold Start Judder
Will try replacing the sensor.
Is it an easy job? and what tools do you need?
Thanks
Re: Golf V5 VAG COM Errors - Cold Start Judder
Easy.... scewdriver and pliers.
Get a new clip and "O" ring when you get the sensor, you can bet if you don't you'll break the clip...
Re: Golf V5 VAG COM Errors - Cold Start Judder
Have now changed the coolant temprature sensor and no change.
Still getting the power loss/ judder at around 2000 revs
any more ideas?
Happy New Year!
Re: Golf V5 VAG COM Errors - Cold Start Judder
Clean and re-set the throttle body
Re: Golf V5 VAG COM Errors - Cold Start Judder
Just before I installed a new MAF, I checked the ignition leads going into the coil pack
One of them was cracked and I am replacing the coil pack monday, so fingers crossed
will update if this worked
Re: Golf V5 VAG COM Errors - Cold Start Judder
Coil pack amp failure can cause this. It is the box on the bulkhead.
Re: Golf V5 VAG COM Errors - Cold Start Judder
Fitted a new coil pack amp and now runs smooth as silk
Thanks for all the advice
