Open Tailgate Light
Hi everyone
I have just purchased a Y-Reg 1.4 VW Polo Match. I have only had it a few days and I have now noticed that the open tailgate light is constantly on on the dashboard, even though the boot is closed and locked. Can anyone tell me how to sort this out please?
Many thanks
P.S Apologies if this topic has already been covered somewhere - I'm not very good at forums!

Re: Open Tailgate Light
Don't have a solution I'm afraid but I'm looking for one as I'm having the same problem with mine (03 TDI 100). Started for no apparent reason and keeps triggering the alarm much to the delight of my neighbours... If I find a solution then I'll let you know. Please do likewise if you get there first :-)

Re: Open Tailgate Light
I had this happen on another car so hopefully it will be the same with the polo. The microswitch / contact points will be dirty (or damaged). Take a look at where the boot latches and there will likely be a connection that is not being made due to a build of dirt or grease. It is making the car think that the boot is not shut. I have not looked at the location of this on the Polo and so can't be any more specific I'm afraid. Shouldn't be too hard to find though.

Re: Open Tailgate Light
Thanks for your suggestion ptolemy. I managed to remove the cowling from the inside of the tailgate at the weekend after noticing screenwash running around the channel in the rubber seal. It turns out that I have an almighty leak in the washer hose due to a couple of holes just above the motor for the rear wiper so I think that my problem has been electrical rather than mechanical. I've dried the boot out and will figure a way of sealing up the holes. Someone suggested silicone sealant so next stop B&Q...
