Help TDI ATD engine intermittant cutting out
Hi
I am desperate for help to solve my car cutting out. It is a 1.9 TDI, ATD engine. It will start and run as normal and I can leave it running in the drive all day with out problem. If I drive on the road it will go less than 3-4 miles before cutting out and refusing to restart. It will eventually restart either after 10 mins or some times a few hours. It them runs fine again to get it home or t the garage. This happens virtually every journey and usually going up a hill but not always.
The fuel pump has been changed £££:zx11:! and the fuel pump relay. The crank angle sensor has been checked and no fault codes are recorded. The garage have no idea what the problem is.
My thoughts were it was a temperture sensor fault or the crank angle sensor but no fault codes. I am now going to investigate the electronic throttle or the inlet flap and all the electrical connections/earth connections.
Any other thoughts/directions I should consider:confused:? The car is unusable at the moment apartfor sitting in it and running the engine.!
Any thoughts welcome
Re: Help TDI ATD engine intermittant cutting out
Hi
I had a similar problem with my TDI ATD. It started cutting out when under load such as going up hills. It got steadily worse. It would tick over for a few minutes then start cutting out. To cut a long story short managed to trace it down to the injectors wiring loom. Don t worry its not as bad as it sounds. Very simple to fit. I followed the Haynes manual and it cost £45 from VW dealer . No engine problems since. From what I can gather it is a common fault. Hope that is some help.

Thanks antandlou
I hae changed the injector wiring bofore on this car at around 50k miles. It has now done 105k miles so it could be this again. The last time the car run on three cylinders as the wire to one of the injectors had failed. The current failure is as you described so it is worth me trying this out.
Many Thanks:Blush:
