Rear wiper always on

Hi,
I've got an '04 A3 2.0 TDi and have a problem with the rear wiper.
This morning it would work intermittently - when I pushed the stalk back sometimes it would do one full cycle, sometimes it would do half a turn, sometimes it would stop halfway along the rear windscreen and sometimes there'd be no response at all (washer jet seems to be working fine).
However this evening the wiper is now on constantly, no matter what position the stalk is in, it only stops when the ignition is off.

Anyone have an idea what's going on? :confused: :confused:

Check the wiring in the rubber gaitors on top of the tailgate

I've only been able to have a quick look at the wiring in the gaiters and nothing seems out of the ordinary, but my electronics knowledge is limited and it'd have to be something really obvious for me to know there was anything wrong there.

The wiper doesn't seem to work at all now, so I'm wondering if it's the motor that's packed up. Are these expensive/easy to replace, do you know?

Check a breakers yard, main dealer will rip you off!!

Sorry to bumpo an old thread......

I was going to replace the motor on my rear wiper, but the other day it started to work again, but wouldn't turn off. I've had to take the fuse out to stio if from constantly wiping while I'm driving.
Is it likely to be the motot that's faulty or could it be a differtne electrical probelm - switch, relay, faulty wiring somewhere??

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.....

As far I am aware there is no relay on the rear wiper

I suspect it the motor thats stuck there is a electonic timer bulit in to the wiper

But before you dash out and get motor unplug the wires from the switch stalk and replace the fuse and see if it stops working if so try the switch " it May be cheaper option

Also try moving the switch about to see if contacts are stuck

Read the other post about rear wash / wipe problems with water problems this could be your problem

Hi Brian, thanks for the tips.

Decided to remove the motor and have a look if there were any obvious problems. When I took the motor cover off, the internal components and circut board were covered in muck and a couple of the parts were rusting. I'm guessing that's gonna cause some problems with it with it working properly.
The washer jets on the arm were blocked a while ago, so obvioulsy the screen wash was leaking into the motor assembly. I've tried to clean it out and left it to dry to see if it'll work, but I'm assuming the damage is already done and it's time to replace it.
