Grinding noise (setting off)
:zx11:Hi all,
i have changed discs (front only)
all brake pads
i am getting a grinding noise when i set off at slow speed. cold start or hot
this happened before i changed discs and pads and is still happening.
car audi a6 1.8t se
it feels like a pad is still leaning on the disc some how. but lifted car and tested all sides and nothing. could it need weight on to make this noise.
any help/direction would be appreicated
Re: Grinding noise (setting off)
You may have a worn wheel bearing on one corner and with weight on the wheel is causing the camber to be incorrect and the disc if touching the caliper. Can you tell which wheel is making the noise. Regards Peter
Re: Grinding noise (setting off)
Hi Peter,
thanks for the reply, I believe its the front left, however I am not 100% sure and would need someone to stand outside the car to listen to it. currently i listen to it with the windows down and although i assume it is that side it could be vibrating through out the car.
this may help, when the car is stationary. and I put weight on it (ie i sit in the car. i hear what sounds to be like a scraping noise (like something is not oiled (spring system) could that have something to do with it.
thanks again for the response
Re: Grinding noise (setting off)
Yep you need to inspect and lubricate all the suspension bushes and lube the pad that the body rests on the cross member. It could even be a spring or shock absorber. Regards Peter
