Vw golf 2000 gt tdi - immobiliser activated
:aargh4:I have put my key in this morning to find that my immobiliser has been activated, i am not sure if it is due to dropping my key...? the central locking stick works to lock and unlock the car. i have put the key in to turn over engine but its not having it...
i have had someone connect to ECU for fault codes which came back with if i can remember 1750 or 7150 something like that; key issues, ECU power flat, and two other possible problems.
What is the immobiliser module???? what could have caused the problem and how can i fix it?
Need help guys...flood the forum with knowledge...
Re: Vw golf 2000 gt tdi - immobiliser activated
Try disconnecting the battery for 30 mins to 1 hour( whilst the front windows are down and re-connect. Had this problem on my bora and it fixed it and has not come back since.
Re: Vw golf 2000 gt tdi - immobiliser activated
i tried it for 30 mins a couple of days ago i dont suppose doing it again will do any harm i will try it again... thanks
Re: Vw golf 2000 gt tdi - immobiliser activated
It could be a couple of things, key (unlikely), reader coil on the ignition barrel (possible), dashpod failure (likely) or ECU failure (very unlikely).
In my experience with Golfs it tends to be the dashpod. I can code a second hand one in and correct the mileage where VW can only sell you a new one.
Let me know if I can be of any help.

Re: Vw golf 2000 gt tdi - immobiliser activated
Immobliser kill is £60, dashboard swap is £100 + whatever it costs for the dashboard.

Re: Vw golf 2000 gt tdi - immobiliser activated
Hi there,
does your immobiliser work on the ignition or on the fuel flow? if it works on the fuel flow, follow your fuel lines and look for a solenoid that cuts off fuel flow. all you do is bypass this solenoid and the immobiliser can trigger all it likes but the fuel will still flow.
if your immobiliser works on the ignition system then it can be a little bit tricky - diesel is not my forte but there will proably be a cut out switch giving power to your plugs - find it and bypass it.
your problem sounds electronic to me and your safest bet is to take it to a qualified autoelectrician.
good luck
Re: Vw golf 2000 gt tdi - immobiliser activated
Had a similar problem with my 4motion. sorted it as follows.
Disconnect battery for 20-30 mins (as discussed before)
Reconnect.
Keys into ignition and turn till dash lights ect come on.(do not attempt to start).....Immobiliser warning shows as before.
Leave keys in ignition with ignition on and after 20-30 mins or so it should reset immobiliser.
Hope this helps.
Re: Vw golf 2000 gt tdi - immobiliser activated
Hi I Have a 1998 s reg vw golf mk4 gtdi, my ignition barrel went faulty as the key kept spinning.
I bought a second hand one off an auction site, and installed barrel, however ever since then the alarm goes off when I turn on the ignition it starts for about 2 seconds and then cuts out its almost like somethings wrong with immobiliser.
Can someone please help me??
