Quattro & Tyres
Hi all,
Jade12378's post reminded me of a couple of questions I've been meaning to ask for a while. I vaguely remember a post on the volvo forum I used to frequent about somebody's haldex 4wd system blowing up because they put a new tyre on just one wheel. I know that the A4 uses a different system, but just to be on the safe side. . .
How important is it to maintain an even diameter for all 4 wheels when you have quattro? Should I swap the wheels around at the appropriate time to replace all 4 tyres at once, or should I just leave them as they are i.e. replace the front ones first then the rears 5-10k later when they wear out?
I'm also considering changing the tyres for a different brand/pattern. Is it ok to have different ones on the front / rear on a quattro or should I keep them all the same?
Cheers :biglaugh:

Re: Quattro & Tyres
I don't have any experience of quattro but I do with 4x4 Jeep's. I would recommend that you rotate your tyres every 6000 - 8000 miles to maintain even tyre wear and then replace all 4 tyres at once. If you have a unrepairable puncture you will need to ensure that the tyre fitter shaves the new tyre to make it the same diameter as the other 3 tyres.
