A6 Air con problem
Hello all.
I have had a look through and found simular problems but I was just looking for a bit more advice. My A6 2.8 quattro's air con has been poor for a while so tonight had it re-gassed. It made no difference so mate vacumed it and tried again. this time seemed a bit better for about 2 mins then cabin temp increased. He seemed to think it was all getting to hot and then we noticed smaller fan was not spinning. He seemed to think it should be running, that would explain why the air-con works ok at higher speeds. We traced the wires back to connection block under cover and there we are getting 12v. Would this sound like the fan motor has failed?
Thanks in advance. Alan..

Re: A6 Air con problem
Surely he disconnected the fan and probed the fan motor connector for a resistance reading. It should be 3 ohms or so, and turn the fan to check the commutator for dead areas. Regards Peter

Re: A6 Air con problem
Thanks Peter, no I don't think he did. he has now gone away for a week so is this something I could check with a multimeter. I have one but do not much about the ohm side of things. the fan does spin freely I know that much. I have checked eurocarparts and gsf but they don't seem to sell fan and it looks a real pain to get to anyway, Tempted to put it in garage but don't want to throw money away for them to check things.

Re: A6 Air con problem
Thanks Peter, All sorted now, turns out to be a dodgy wire going in to fan motor.
