locking confirmation beep
I have a 2008 model Passat. I'm getting a bit frustrated that when I lock the vehicle I can't always see the indicator flash or hear the "clunk" of the locks. Especially when I'm at the back.
I took the car to an independent and asked them to program to car to beep and flash when locked. The option was available but it wouldn't let the setting be saved.
So I took it to VW and asked them to do it. They also tried and failed. They said that my car is a "German model" and that it's illegal for cars in Germany to beep when they are locked. So basically it can't be done.
Can anyone shed some light on this?

Errm, cheers Kenney, it's perfectly clear now....
Wouldn't happen to be taking a holiday in this part of France in the near future by any chance? If you are, don't forget to pack your Vag-com, I'll provide the food and drink.;)
Re: locking confirmation beep
Comparing with older versions of control modules, were one adapted the various functions by changing the code. The units on newer vehicles have what is called long coding, which consists of bytes and bits. A byte consists of 8 bits were 0 is inactive and 1 is active,by changing the bit from 0 to 1 you activate the function. I have been to France once, visiting the Commonwealth War Graves, that was all right, but i wasn't impressed by the French people, and i don't think i would go back again.:dunno:

I'll ask next time I go to the dealer and see what sort of reaction I get.
I've been here 12 years now and most French round here are fine - it's them northerners....
