Re: vw crafter no start elec, faults??
Hi there, I have the same problem, mine is a 1.9td T4, I have taken out the relay box numbered 137 and still does the same, does not start but lights on the dashboard habe stoped going crazy.
I have connected the vagcom cable and it shows no errors apart from wrong/faulty key (001176 fault code), but I am sure is not the key, because i have tried the stand-by key.
Did you have any luck trouble-shooting the problem?

Re: vw crafter no start elec, faults??
i'm no expert, but sounds like the key reader on the column,
or wiring/relay to starter burnt out?
possibly key reader is ok but the ignition switch has lost it's internal contacts
when turned to start?
if it's had a fire, and the diagnostic tool won't connect, their seems to be fire damage somewhere ?
it may simply be a bad battery/earth connection which is failing to carry the current that the starter motor is demanding, although that would cause the clock to show 00.00.

stewy.
Re: vw crafter no start elec, faults??
Thank's for the answer STEWY L, tomorrow morning I am buying a new ignition switch, if it's not the cause it's not going to be the end of the world since is not too expensive.
Did you already try changing the ignition switch Toma69?

Re: vw crafter no start elec, faults??
thanks for the help and interest, i have got it going ,all the original parts were in rear of van so i swapped back to original clocks ,and found a badly con nected plug to fuse box ,sorted it and it starts, only problem remains with a very badly repaired roof wiring loom , which is knocking all the lights haywire, the standard of repair by a major bodyshop is a disgrace however will get it sorted out, cheers:beerchug:

i would test the switch before buying another.
just a simple continuity meter,or rig a lamp and battery up.
you could also test for continuity to the starter relay/starter motor.
if it's been on fire, you could have wires/relays/ starter motor u/s.
chucking bits at it is not the way to go about it,
granted you would need long wires to check to starter motor, and your better half to hold them where you tell her ( where's this going?)
but you must'nt just throw bits at it.
if it's not the ignition switch, which bit are you going to change after that?
if you are not in any real hurry to get it fixed, you could take the opportunity
to learn a great deal about this van you have.
i would start by trying to get hold of a wiring diagram( possibly a haynes manual, they usually have them in the back),
or if you could download one,get one emailed from dealer/independant,
(they come through the size of postage stamps, but you can "zoom"and make them any size you like) .
PLEASE DON'T GO CHANGING WHAT WE ARE ONLY GUESSING AT,
it could cost an arm and a leg.
best regards,
stewy.
