Genuine replacement chrome strip
I have managed to back my car into a steel gate in work like a dosey B*@*ard and i have cracked and scuffed the chrome trim on the back bumper (drivers side) along with putting a small scrape on the top edge of the back bumper.
I have just called VW for a price for replacement chrome strip and they want £30. Does anyone know where i could get this part cheaper but a genuine replacement??
Cheers
Re: Genuine replacement chrome strip
I replaced all the black strips from the rear bumper and doors on mu TDI S to the chrome ones.
I must admit that I only considered getting them from the VW dealer.
I paid I think about £135 ball in for the 6 strips inc VAT.
Just make sure when ordering it you get the right side and be careful when fitting it as it will only go on one way correctly or you'll break the clips.
The ones on the doors are held on with adhesive strips but the bumper ones just clip in. Yopu have to break the locating lugs to get the old ones off but not an issue if it's damaged anyway.

Spudrig - have you done this yet??
Re: Genuine replacement chrome strip
Yes,
I did this about 2 years ago. The only difficult bit was removing the adhesive from the doors but using a toffee wheel solved the issues. The previous owner had also used super glue to re-attach the strips on one side of the car.
I would recommend this mod to anyone with a S spec Passat!

No James I haven't done this. I actually like the dark strips on my car as it's black, but I would give serious consideration about the chrome strips when I get back from the US in September :p

HI might be best to ring around different dealers for prices, I replaced the chrome strip on one side of my rear bumber not long ago as there was a piece broken off! it cost £23 from my local dealers. They just snap on so easy to fit too.

just of the phone to the dealers,he said you have to paint the back of the strips:confused: He said it comes in 2 parts the chrome and the backing part.
Please give more info on how to fit, i'm ready to do this now:o
Re: Genuine replacement chrome strip
The dealer is talking out of the hole in their heads.
The bumper strips just clip in and the door strips have adhesive strips already attached, no painting or fiddly things involved.
The only thing I struggled with was removing the old adhesive. Buy a toffee wheel from E-bay or similar, fits into a drill and removes the adhesive not the paint.
Before fitting the new strips make sure you thoroughly clean the area before fitting the new ones.
One last thing, make sure you put the right strip in the right place. It sounds obvious but they are very similar and easy to mix up.
Hope this helps.
