FSI is a noisy engine when warmed up and idling- could be confused for a diesel sometimes :D , something to do with the high pressures the fuel is injected at I think.
Check if the noise is coming from the rear of the cylinder head,if so replace the camshaft chain and tensioner and the gear
i have another sc index Q if your interested
I was told by an Audi tech about the FSI being noisy when I took the car for a service.
Yes it is noisy for a petrol I think, but it's not as bad as my diesel Golf for tractor noises. being my first petrol car in a long time I don't have anything to compare it against.
The TFSI engine sounds so much like a diesel that when I picked up my car (new), I almost took a swing at the salesman for ordering the wrong car! I honestly had to take a look inside the filler flap and then lift the bonnet before I was happy.
Mine is the same. I've had mine to an Audi centre and they've said some are like that. Its not excessively loud (so they said) wouldn't do anything about it under warranty. W:mad:nkers. Mine has only 26k on it ('06).
It concerned me to begin with as it only happened when the engine was properly warm (failing oil pressure as it 'thins out'? - I thought)
I'm sure mine still is chain tensioner. Its coming from the rear of the engine. I can hear the injectors firing on the left side of the engine and its not them thats making the noise.
I've heard some transverse engined Gti s make similar noises. Seems to affect some engines and not others. Weird, but not a good noise to be coming from such a modern high tech engine.
Might have a go at it myself it if I can blag the proper camshaft retaining plate needed to do the job. (Theres also not a lot of room back there, what with the brake vacuum pump on the end of the chain tensioner housing).
Your not the only one with the same noise. Its not the injectors your hearing. You can hear them clicking by sticking your ear close to the left side of the engine (right side as you look at it)
