Central Locking Failure

My 2001 VW Polo has an electrical fault so my central locking doesn't work on the driver's side. It looks as if the cental locking is now failing on the passenger side as well. My worry is that I will be unable to unlock the petrol cap to fill up with fuel if the central locking fails completely on both sides of the car and I cant afford to get the problem repaired immediately.

Does anybody know if there is a way to manually unlock the petrol cap if the central locking isn't working? At least then I would be able to manage until I can get the problem sorted.

Can be the metal piece that connects the door handle to the locking mechanism. Once you remove the handle, you can test with a flat screwdriver if the central locking works. The parts that are broken can be obtained seperately and don't cost much. Bring your handle, because some other parts in the handle can also be broken.
