Polo - Grinding in 1st and 2nd
Hi folks
A friend of mine has a 2004 Polo 1.9 TDI 100hp and it seems to make an odd grinding sound only in 1st and 2nd gear, at full throttle, between about 2.5-4k rpm.
I personally own a 306 1.9TD, and recently fitted "group n" gear linkages as I had to break the old ones to get them off when I changed the front anti roll bar, and it makes a fairly weird grinding sound around 4-5k rpm with the new stiffer linkages.
The sound that my linkages makes is similar to the sound my mates polo makes. And considering it only does it in 1st and 2nd, no other gear, makes me think it's the gear linkages that are the problem.
Do polos like this one ever suffer from grindey gear linkages?
Thanks, Dom.
Re: Polo - Grinding in 1st and 2nd
Hi,
I'm the guy that owns the car (posting from the same account).
I've had a proper look at the car today and found that there's a nut missing off the left engine mount. It's the nut that fixes the mount onto the chasis where the dampener is so no immediate danger of the engine falling out but obviously something I want to get sorted ASAP.
Has anyone got any idea what size nut I need to get? Just been to my local VW garage and the mechanics finish at 12:30 and there was no one there that could help.
Cheers.
