Swarf in oil

The "engineers" who rebuilt my PD cylinder head seem to have forgotten to tighten one of the injector clamp bolts with the result that over the following 1500 miles the injector has worked loose. This is now so bad that it rattles badly when/if the engine runs. The clamping bolt thread in the head has also been damaged so that I can see aluminium swarf adhering to the valve cover and in the head.
So the question is :-
Assuming the swarf has travelled around the engine will the oil strainer and filter be good enough to catch it so that I can change the oil and relax on that score ?
Will the bouncing injector have damaged the seating in the head ? and how do I check for this ?
Is there anything else I should have checked when getting this repaired ?

The "engineers" are proposing the helicoil the thread with the head on the car - Wise or not ?

Well that sounds worrying, the question is the injector seating now damaged if it is the head might be beyond repair.
Also new bolts should have been used.

From a purely mechanical point of view a helicoil repair shouldn't be an issue (There is a strong case to say that these are better than a steel bolt in alloy thread), however you need to first be sure there is no other damage as mentioned above.

Worrying it is for sure !

New bolts - Do you mean that the injector clamp bolts should have been renewed ? Is that a VW reccomendation too ? They were not as far as I know. I will ask and particularly for the one that has come loose and which has now been hammered by the injector moving up and down.

The garage told me after I ran the car that the injector rocker shaft holding down bolts are prone to shearing but that they did not replace them as VW did not specifically recommend it.

I am currently arguing with the garage to (hopefully) get my car repaired

Do you know how / if it is possible to check the seating for the injector ? The injector has been moving as the lead came off twice and the engine had a rattle before it stopped.

They are stretch bolts and should be replaced

Thanks for that - it looks as though that may have been their mistake in that case.

The engineers that rebuilt the head claim to have done 60 or 70 of them and so I would have expected to know this. I think I had better get them to replace the other three at the same time.

I am told that the rocker shaft holding down bolts don't need to be replaced but that they shear if tightened to the recommended torque and regularly fail after being re-used.

I have also learned that there is a copper washer under the injector and that this is likely (hopefully) to have taken most of the force from the injector bouncing up and down. I hope that the head will have been protectod from damage as a result.
