1.9 Tdi thermostat location

i suspect my thermostat is faulty, for weeks my heater has been blowing warm and cold air when it should be hot, last night my engine overheated due to enthusiastic driving in a hurry to get to my work.

where is the thermostat located and is it an oem part only and how much does it cost ?

Follow the bottom radiator hose,which fits onto a plastic housing, just in front of the oil filter

got a thermostat today for £9 at the auto spares place so will fit it this weekend.
