A6 Alternator replacement
Hi,
Last Friday the alternator on my 2001 1.8T Sport Avant well and truly gave up the ghost (very conveniently on a busy roundabout).
The RAC gave the battery a boost so I was able to get to my local garage. The garage gave me a call later to say they were having problems finding a replacement unit as no one had one in stock. They said the alternator in my car was 120Amp. They even phoned Audi who only had a 100Amp unit but they weren't sure it would do the job properly.
They are continuing to look for one, but in the meantime an auto-electrician is having a look at the old unit to see if it can be re-furbished. at least that might get me going again for a while.
Does anyone know if a 100Amp unit would work in my car or would it be a waste of time & money? Also, has anyone had any experience of a re-furbed alternator?
Many thanks
Kev.
Re: A6 Alternator replacement
If you phone your Audi parts department, from the registration number or vin number, they should be able to tell you exactly which part it requires.
I'd have thought that the RAC should have done this.
Re: A6 Alternator replacement
As Nick says I would get onto Audi, I would have thought that if a 120A comes out, a 120A must go back in. Audi would confirm it.
