Anyone fitted 18" Wheels to there Golf Mk3
Hiya,
Was just wondering if anyone out there has fitted 18" wheels to there Golf Mk3, as i have been given a set of 18" Audi Wheels.
I know i would have to get the converters to make 4 stud to 5.
But i havn't seen any MK3's with 18" wheels so not sure if they actually gonna fit, even with converters.
My car is having some work done on it so i can't just marry up the wheels to the car at the minute.
Any help, really appreciated.
Bonnie
Re: Anyone fitted 18" Wheels to there Golf Mk3
The rolling radius would be way to high. A typical Golf 3 has 185/60 14 tyres and an approximate rolling radius of 289-mm. A typical 18 inch wheel will have a 225/40 tyre and a rolling radius 319-mm which means the 18 would be nearly 11% larger than the original meaning a massive under read on the speedo, very risky these days. Even if you got around this, the spacer adapter necessary to make the wheels fit would have to be at least 15-mm thick and would make the wheels stick out too far by making the offset or ET number too low.

Sell the 18's on ebay and get some 16 or 17's that are made to fit the golf. You'll get a much better look and a safer/better handling car.
It will look daft if you make the 18's fit.
The mk3 really suits 16" wheels, 17's are about as big as I would go, and only with an suspension mod to stop it looking like a tractor.
