Desperately Seeking Sensor (Crank Position)
Hi
My beloved 2001 Bora has been diagnosed as having a dud crank position sensor. All the usual symptoms I have read on this and other forums.
Problem is I am in Brisbane Australia and apparently VW Australia don't have any in the country and may take up to 4 weeks to get one from Germany. Since I have relatives in the UK I thought it might just be easier to get them to go and buy me one and post it to me.
I will have the part number tomorrow but in the meantime does anyone have any recommendations on places to get one either near Ipswich, Woking, Southampton or Isle of Wight or, even better, online that will ship to Aus. It will probably end up even cheaper than through VW Aus anyway.
Thanks in advance
Paul

The part number for an AQN engine is 022 957 147 and these cost £69.55 inc. VAT, there is no problem with UK stock, they have 19. This is component G28 crank speed (or impulse) sender and not the position senders (G40 and G163).

by "they" do you mean VW? I have sent an email to the VW dealership on the Isle of Wight (The mother-in-law lives down there and can pick it up for me) and he couldn't find the part with the same info I gave you. I have given him a few more clues (like the part number).
Is this a part I'd be able to get through somewhere like GSF? Are there third party parts? (Should I even consider that?).
So many questions...
Thanks for the help
Paul.
Re: Desperately Seeking Sensor (Crank Position)
Yes, I mean VAG UK main stores has 19. I have had a lot of trouble with non genuine crank speed senders. As this one is so reasonable compared to some others such as the Golf 3 2 litre 8v which is about three times the price, I would go genuine.
Re: Desperately Seeking Sensor (Crank Position)
Thanks for the good advice Crasher,
I'm more than happy to go with genuine parts, especially for more sensitive stuff like this. I've been burned before with pattern spares being a false economy.
I'll call the guy in IoW tonight (tomorrow UK time) and see how quick he can get one.
Does anyone know of any stores that would ship to Aus? With online orders? It might speed things up a bit for me.
Thanks
Paul.
Re: Desperately Seeking Sensor (Crank Position)
Yes, I can do that. Would you like a price for the shipping?
Re: Desperately Seeking Sensor (Crank Position)
No need for the quote now. The mother-in-law is in Newport this afternoon and they have one on the shelf. (Never underestimate sleepy old IoW !)
Thanks for all the help. :beerchug:
