My Car scared the bejesus out of me last night!
:scared: Driving home last night from Soton, just pulled off the M6 onto a country lane, and my brake pedal went solid and the engine nearly died....ARRRGGGHHH NO BRAKES!!
So Luckily (having just done 250 miles on the motorway) I could just coast into the verge safely from about 30mph.
Had a look under the bonnet (why? Pitch dark!), could see nothing, so restarted the engine, which barely ticked over, and hear a loud hiss....turns out that the hose from the end of the inlet manifold to the brake servo had split and at some point had been sleeved with another slightly larger bore hose!!:confused:....
Quite sure I would have noticed that in the years I have had the car and the amount of time spent under the bonnet!
Anyway, it scared the bejesus out of me.....

Hiya Semky, a bit of a brown pants moment then? If the bit that's split is what I'm thinking of, it should have an approx. 1 1/2" rubber sleeve to attach it to the manifold, down to the dealers.

Haha Yeah you could say that mate, but not half as much as it would have been if it happened 10 mins earlier (on M6 lane 3)!
Looking at it closely though, the pipe does have the rubber sleeve at either end to attach it, but ALSO one 2/3rd the way along the pipe, underneath which is a knackered section of pipe....almost like its been trodden on? FYI the part number of the section of pipe is 8L9 612 041B
Re: My Car scared the bejesus out of me last night!
my old 1998 A3 was recalled to have the vacuum pipe from the brake servo replaced...
... maybe yours was missed?
Re: My Car scared the bejesus out of me last night!
Thats very interesting, is there any way to check which cars were affected by the recalls? When I ordered the parts yesterday, there seems to have been a LOT of supersessions I.E. mines a 'b' and they are through to 'g' for the same car!
Re: My Car scared the bejesus out of me last night!
Here's a list of recalls for the a3. You would need to contact Audi to see if the work was carried out.
