How many chances do they get?
Help! How many chances or how long does a dealership get to fix a fault?
My T5 is almost 2yrs old and has had an intermittent fault for all of that time. It has had 11 visits to 2 dealers and spent over 20 days off the road.
How long do I allow this to go on? And what happens next? Legal advice? What advice do I ask for? Where do I stand? Do VW have the right to let me drive around in a van that they know is faulty ( not dangerous, but faulty).
Please help, my head is hurting from all the banging it against a brick wall.

Personally, for an intermittant fault, I would go with 2-3 times and then start to escellate to management and then VW themselves. My experience (with BMW) is that they won't care though and I don't think you have any legal recourse once you have allowed them to try to fix the problem.
Re: How many chances do they get?
Hi ANDY8442 what is the intermittent fault?
Re: How many chances do they get?
Hi, the fault is the engine suddenly running very rough, followed by serious vibration of the whole van when you touch the brakes. This will sometimes go away after a few mins,or by switching the ignition of and on a few times.
Just to add that I took the van to the dealorship 2 weeks ago when it was doing it. They plugged the computer in and recorded a missfire. They believe all the injectors need replacing but.......Vw warranties won't pay because........ the mechanic FORGOT to print off the fault from the computer!and because it's a big job no proof, no money.
Hmm...nice people. Don't even trust their own dealers.

Hi The law is different in the different countries. However i was under the impression that if an intermittent fault with a new vehicle was not rectified, with in the warranty time limit, the workshop, was responsible, for any further repairs needing done,to rectify the fault. Therefore it is in the workshops own interest to find out what is wrong before the warranty expires.A common fault on these engines is the wiring harness for the PD units.

That is disgraceful, and similar to a gearbox problem I had been to Parkway VW 6 times they couldn't find a fault, I wen over and demo'd it to the teccy he agreed there is a problem he rang VW and they said they would do nothing until it was much more evident, I drove it for another 2 thousand miles then took it back, straight away the gearbox is knackered sir, rang VW and they said they would contribute but not until it was stripped at a cost of £700 to me.
I did get it sorted in the end but Parkway were the problem they were not telling VW the full facts, I was never there when they rang so I don't know what they said, took it to another VW dealer and it's all fixed no charge at all. Strange eh?
Re: How many chances do they get?
News Flash!
The dealer has ordered the parts,it may be fixed early next week!
But I have my doubts....they are replacing all the injectors. but how do injectors have an intermitent fault? They either work, or don't work?
Watch this space.
Re: How many chances do they get?
Injectors can suffer intermittant faults. I've seen it happen on Freelanders.
