Hello,I am afraid I put my first post in the wrong place,sorry about that.
I should have looked here first :Blush:
My brother has a Mk3 Golf td which has gone well over 100k and refuses to breakdown despite the neglect he lavishes on it.
Because of this I changed from the usual Vauxhalls and Fords to a Golf Mk4 Tdi for my wife only to find that it developed Mk4 common faults:window regulator,mirror control switch,rear wiper motor,and then had the usual Ford/Vaux problems !
Still it was an excellent wee motor and after she pranged it we invested in a Mk 5 Golf Plus (got a good deal on old model)which is brilliant,only 2 niggles-crap horn and a lot of road noise.
At the back end I traded my Discovery Commercial for a '03 Passat 100 Tdi Estate ( halfed the fuel consumption ) which I am really impressed with apart from an intermittent clutch judder when cold.
I have always done my own servicing and repairs (nearest VW dealer 100mls away) and have got VAG COM which is an excellent diagnostic program and one of the factors which influenced the switch to VW.
