Re: VAG COM Suitable for me?
I'm a grubby oik as well and it has served me well and paid for itself many times over.
I'm only a private car owner. As a trader I'm sure it will pay for itself even quicker.
Really easy to use with an immense online knowledge base. Even Rosstech themselves who produce vagcom frequent this site and help.
Re: VAG COM Suitable for me?
If you are checking the cars you bring in, then you need a tool that will go into all systems and give you fault information. VCDS (VAG-COM) will do that for you so that you know you are not picking up a bag of troubles. If it were me, I would want to scan any car I was looking at before I set the price to buy it. Likewise, giving your customer a print out of the cars condition should help in the sale.

Bruce shares exactly my thoughts.
I am a home mechanic, I used to work for Toyota, now I'm not in the trade I just service and fix my own cars really. It has paid for itself already. I messed up the remote C/L on my A6 (I lost the code for it while trying to code a new key), it needed re-coding which could be done with the fully registered 409.1 VAG-COM. Audi would have charged me a couple of hundred quid for this, it cost me what the license cost ($99) plus some excellent advice from Crasher. ;)

I couldn't agree more with the above posts.
What's more, it's jolly nice to see a dealer taking a pro-active approach to reducing faults on car he sells, if only all car dealers worked to the same ethos. :)

Thanks for the response folks.:beerchug:
It confirms my thoughts really. As we are moving back to doing more in the VAG range of vehicles it appeared to be sensible.
Really looking ahead to next years capital expenditure (yes even us small guys have budgets........ small budgets!).
Hmmm so need a laptop to go with the software.
Will a net book do it?
I'll start a seperate thread on that one!
