Mfsw, dis and cruise retro fit b6 & b7 a4
Re posted after removing due to finding instructions used by ebay seller.
Ok B6 model and B7 A4 saloon, avant and cab adding cruise control and dis or multi function indicator
Only high line specified vehicles seemed to have dis fitted from factory but the software is already installed on all the dash clocks, this means we can enable the function.
The only difference is the washer bottle level sensor which will not be fitted if you are retro fitting dis.
For B7 models the wiring for washer circuit is fitted in part but for B6 its not
Other members have posted the part numbers and how 2 so I wont go into it.
However when we fit the dis/wiper switch we need to modify the circuit to turn off the warning light now enabled after encoding the steering control unit and changing the dash insert adaption channel (cover this later)
If you wish to add cruise control then we can cover this also
Ok firstly safety is very important so we need to follow a few steps before removing the airbag
Turn the ignition on so the engine is off but the dash is on (please make sure you have the radio anti theft code)
Open the bonnet and disconnect the battery earth
Now remember when reassembling to turn the ignition back to this position before refitting the battery earth terminal
The reason for this is simple, if the airbag deploys its most likely to do so when you turn the ignition on after removing and installing the airbag.
Leaving the ignition key in the on position and fitting the battery terminal means you are outside of the vehicle and therefore out of harms way.
Important
Before handling the airbag units (e.g. unplugging the electrical connector) the mechanic must discharge static electricity by briefly touching the door striker plate, or similar.
Attachment 9860
As the picture shows we need to remove the two torx bolts number (6) size 25 to 30
Then ease the airbag off the steering wheel and disconnect the wiring connector
Now place the airbag underneath the vehicle face upwards
Remove the central steering wheel bolt (3) 12mm spline and mark the position of the wheel with marker pen against the steering column splines for the central position of the wheel
Now remove the steering cowling
Attachment 9861
Now remove the airbag slip ring
Attachment 9862
If you need to replace the steering control unit then remove all the screws for the switch packs and simply swap it all over
Attachment 9863
Now dis/wiper switch needs swapping and also add the cruise switch and refit the switch pack steering control unit and slip ring.
Now remove the dash panel insert to modify the washer circuit for dis
Attachment 9864
torx screws again and should be size 20/25
Pull the dash towards you and disconnect the multi plugs, locate the blue plug and remove the wire from pin 1 if present and replace it with oem wire part number 000 979 164E and run the wire to the earth bolted connection behind the dash on the bulkhead (10 mm nut) you will see it its obvious.
Ok refit everything remembering the battery procedure for the airbag.
important
The ignition key inserted and turned on (nobody inside the vehicle)
When connecting battery, attach battery clamp of earth cable to negative battery terminal “–” by hand and tighten nut.
Now if there are no loud bangs then its safe to enter the vehicle

address 16 use long code helper add cruise and on board computer change byte 4 to 2 or 4 with cruise and on board
example
address 16: Steering wheel Labels: 8E0-953-549.lbl
Part No: 8E0 953 549 Q
Component: Lenksáulenmodul 0601
Coding: 03041
4th byte changed for cruise and dis (on board computer)
Notice the steering control unit part number Q revision or R revision for B7 or you can fit these revisions for B6 also
address 01 use login 11463 and enable cruise but if its tfsi or 3.0/2.7 tdi you need enable the long code byte number 6 to enable cruise
address 17 go to adaption channel 19 change byte add dis function

reset all fault codes drive vehicle 20 meters or so to reset esp/steering angle position. or re set http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index...#Basic_Setting
Check clutch switch mvb 6 address 01 or use advance measured values as the group changes for differing ecu protocols, this needs to be checked as if the switch sticks then the cruise will not function.

you need to see the byte change from 0 to 1 or visa versa as you press and release the clutch.
I will add a log to run through the coding etc
Part numbers
If you have a multifunction steering wheel then you already have the correct steering control unit and therefore only need the
LOWER COWLING 8E0 953 512 (COLOUR code)
CRUISE SWITCH 4E0 953 521 (COLOUR CODE)
WIPER SWITCH/DIS 4E0 953 503 (COLOUR CODE) AVANT AND SAL0ON DIFFER
REPAIR WIRE 000 979 009 E
RINGLET TERMINAL
You only need to replace the steering control unit if adding cruise control without multifunction steering wheel
Dis will work with all steering control unit revisions
If you wish to upgrade B6 to dis and cruise then I advise you fit steering control unit Part No: 8E0 953 549 Q or R
Again if you have a B7 WITHOUT MULTI FUNCTION STEERING WHEEL YOU NEED THE SAME CONTROL UNIT
HOW TO RETRO FIT MFSW FOR B7 MODELS
The steering wheel isn't cheap so ebay is a good place to look
If you have a B7 and wish to add multifunction steering wheel you will need to replace the steering control unit with
8E0 953 549 Q or R
Also you need
Airbag slip ring 4E0953541A or B
If you look at the slip ring and you look at the connection from the steering wheel airbag plug then the slip ring needs to have all 12 pins populated
The image below (bangor lads) shows only 6 pins populated so it needs replacing for mfsw
http://184.72.239.143/mu/5e0e7a61-3e4f-bc38.jpg
If only the top row is populated then you need to replace the slip ring for the multifunction controls to operate as they use the lower row of pins
And
Airbag steering wheel loom
4F0 971 589 A
Also and revisit address 16 and encode to add the function plus address 56 radio and address 77 if you have phone.
Also if you have phone preparation recode the telephone control unit address 77 so you now can use the push to talk button on the steering wheel
Re: DIS AND CRUISE RETRO FIT b6+b7
Great post!
If you want to retrofit the washer bottle you will need the following:
Washer bottle sensor: 7M0 919 376
Contact Housing (plug): 1J0 973 202
Connector Wires: 000 979 009A
Connector Wires: 000 979 133A
Parts cost around £17
The other end of the instrument cluster Pin1 wire is in the passenger side footwell:
- Remove the glovebox, the trim along the sill and the triangular shaped piece of trim in front of the door. There a number of plugs for the wiring loom behind here.
- Remove the nearside front wheel and wheel arch lining
- Remove the plastic strut at the front of the wheel arch
- Remove the bolts securing the washer bottle and gently pull it down slightly. You don't have to fully remove it and be careful not to pull the rubber tube out
- Turn it roundand remove the black bung.
- Fit the sensor. Insert the repair wires in to the plug then fill the back of the plug with some silicone, then fit the plug to the sensor.
- Refit the washer bottle to the car and earth one side of the sensor
- With the other side of the sensor, route a cable up and along the top of the wing (following the wiring loom) and then on the right in the bulkhead there is a rubber grommet, snip the end off and feed the wire through.
- On the inside of the car insert a repair wire in to Pin 9 of the black plug (red and brown wire)... * Please check this is the correct pin and wire - I'm pretty certain it is, but check to be sure... I used a multimeter to be sure. It is easier if you remove the bracket the bracket the plugs are fixed to and then remove the black plug.
- Connect the repair wire to the other end of the sensor wire.
- Refit everything.

If anyone finds the coding tricky to work out, I have written an Idiots Guide - see the link in my Sig.

Re: DIS AND CRUISE RETRO FIT b6+b7
Q5,B8 A4 and A5 cruise retro fit requires the switch pack and lower cowling, only none muti function steering wheels need the additional steering angle/airbag slip ring
Re: DIS AND CRUISE RETRO FIT b6+b7

a8 quick question on the B7 dis fitting u say its a blue plug wire 1
well on this b7 its a black plug pin 1 is a thick brown wire the 2 a power wire other 16 thin wires what wire needs earthing to get washers off ?
any idea
Re: DIS AND CRUISE RETRO FIT b6+b7
Pin 1 needs to be earthed,b7 has the brown and black tracer wire fitted for the washer circuit but this stops at the nsf A pillar, just earth the wire,B6 has no wire in pin 1

so its the big wire 1 an 2 are big wires the rest are thin wires if u pull the plug apart 1 an 2 stay in one part ov the plug the others stay in the other part ?
Re: DIS AND CRUISE RETRO FIT b6+b7
Remove the outer blue cover and find pin 1,de pin and fit a new wire with contact (i posted the wire part number) run this to the earth point behind the dash inserts fitting position and fit eyelet connection to your wire and locate at the 10mm nut earth point.Or strip the wiring loom tape back from the blue connection and extend pin 1 wire to reach the earth point

it aint a blue cover the plug is black 2 thick wires 1 2 and then when u remove black cover that hold 14 small pins the 1 an 2 stay in the cover i got the wire in case i needed it but the number 1 wire in plug is thicker i shoulh have took a pic ov the plug
