First problem at 193 miles!
Got a 2.0 TDI Avant SE for 1st September and everything was great until a wet 11th Sept, when I started up the car to see an ESP fault on the DIS and no windscreen wipers. The breakdown assistance bloke's computer determined the ECU in the steering column had failed. Apparently there is a sensor in the steering wheel that the ESP system uses to compare it's position with what the wheels are doing. (I found out shortly afterwards that no other steering column controls were working either).
Audi Camberley took the car in yesterday and I will get an update on Monday. (Either they haven't looked very thoroughly yet or have found a fairly significant problem).
Anyone seen something similar?

Sorry to hear about your problem. Ive not read anyone else reporting anything like this. Problems seem to be few and far between at the moment. (Touch wood!!)
I hope it is sorted for you ASAP and would be good to hear how it goes wih the dealer. Did they give you a car in the meantime?
Re: First problem at 193 miles!
Thanks. Yes, I have an A6 right now :approve: but I get the impression that gives the garage licence to take their time. So far it is me chasing them all the time asking for updates. Naturally, I want to know if it is major work or a quick reconnection/module replacement. I'll let you know the conclusion when I call on Monday.
Just to share more experiences and in case anyone hasn't ever broken down...I actually started off with a Vectra from National hire as Audi (i.e. RAC managed) were fresh out of Audi's. If you get offered this "contingency", make you tell them what you need. They don't seem to know what they are doing - they didn't ask about additional drivers (so it transpired my wife was not covered), they didn't take the credit card fuel/fines deposit (who cares) and they didn't inspect the driving licences (which I understand is mandatory for insurance purposes, so was I even insured that day??). A couple of firm phone calls got them sourcing one of their fleet of Audis, which is also linked with National car hire (confused?). Clearly that part of the process is a disaster, which reminds me....that Vectra...

I collected the A4 first thing this morning from the service centre. The replacement ECU part finally arrived yesterday and was fitted quickly. All's well that ends well.
