Aerial adaptor

I have the Autoleads aerial adaptor for my car but reception is still bad.

The adaptor only has 1 input but the car has 2 aerials.

I went into VW today and one of the assistants (told me he used to work for autoleads) said that they did a double adaptor and Halfords would be able to supply it.

I have been to Halfords and nothing is listed in the catalogue except the single adaptor and when I just rang Autoleads they don't deal direct with the public.

I can't see it in the Autoleads catalogue. The only similar thing they do splits a single aerial into 2 plugs, allowing you to connect it to two devices. A possible solution is to get a couple of female connectors and a male and to wire it up yourself. No idea where you get the connectors - they are quite unusual.

Cheapest I could find it. Not made by autoleads but doesn't really matter as long as it works.
Should have it Monday or Tuesday hopefully so I will report back.

I find it strange everyone inc Autoleads describe the single version as the correct one for VW as it obviously is not.

I had to search under "Twin fakra aerial adaptor" to find it double brings nothing up and "VW Aerial adaptor" brings up the single one.

For an aftermarket radio, you only need one of the two Fakra aerial cables to be plugged in. Either will work fine. But you do need an adapter which will power the aerial with 12V back up the cable whenever the radio is turned on, because the aerial is active and contains an amplifier. Halfords do them and I believe it is the Autoleads version they sell. Without the power up the lead reception will be poor, especially on AM.

The original head unit needs two cables because some models perform fancy tricks with station scanning and so on.

Well I have the single one WITH the power up it and it's SXXXX.
It's connected to an alpine stereo so it's not some crappy make but the reception is no where near as good as it was with the original Grundig unit.

I see some Audi's have 2 serials in different locations if it is the same on the Golf then this would also help in bad reception area's.

Double the signal can't hurt

Right I now have the Twin Fakra installed for two days now and the difference is unbeliavable.
I no longer lose reception where I have been so I would suggest this to anybody with reception problems.

I have also purchased the double adapter but it didn't seem to make a difference. Where did you get the 12v supply from? I took it from the permanent live and it didn't make any difference.

I like to listen to the radio during my jurney to work, but the reception is c**p.

any ideas.

I have just had the Kenwood DNX8220BT fitted in place of the RDC500 and I used the Celsus AAN2203 Antenna Adpator from carstereos4u.co.uk. Not the cheapest, but certainly works well and the reception is perfect. It has built in diversity just like the OEM VW units. Certainly worth paying a little extra in my opinion if you have spent a lot of money on the HU.

I have created my own switched live from one of the permanent lives and have taken it from the switched side of this so effectively the same place as you.

that sounds interesting as I an hoping to use the one aerial to feed both the dab and analogue inputs of my sony head unit
any idea wher i can find such a lead?
