Various A4 Avant questions

Hi new to the board so go easy lol

Not new to Audi though had an Audi 200 years ago! (Sold it on with just over 300k miles on it)

Bought a 1997 Audi A4 Avant yesterday with 140k miles and already fitted some 17 RS6 alloys

So my questions are;

• The car has an AHU engine which I believe is 66KW 90 BHP which is fine but the top end is very sluggish with 85/90mph max and acceleration is a bit errr slow.So what "chips" can I use as there are a number on e-bay could anyone recommend one?
• I have full closure central locking (If I hold the key in the lock position it will close the sunroof and windows) but i would like to make it remote what kit would I require?
• The car currently does not have a load cover for the rear and I have toured the local scrappies and ebay where is the cheapest place to get one?
• Did Audi fit alarm/immobliser as standard as at the moment I don,t know if I have either how could I find out if it is working or if I have anything installed
• Could anyone recommend a good place in Norwich/norfolk to have a service inc cambelt without being ripped off?
• When taking the foot off the accelerator the car kind of "jolts" what could cause this?
• Can the factory fitted roof rails be fitted to my car that does not have them fitted?

Apart from these little things I,m really impressed with it as just completed 300 miles on half a tank of diesel!

Hi I've had a 1997 (R) A4 Avant for about a month myself. I can't answer all your questions but:
- Yer pays yer money and yer takes yer choice as far as chipping goes. You are more likely to get a good result with an ECU remap, see the section of the forum devoted to that topic ("Chip 'n' Spin"). From what I've heard the cheapo chips can affect fuel economy and/or cause wear to other parts of the engine (eg turbo?) ANDD .... Whatever you do DON'T FORGET to tell your insurance company!
- Don't know. Haven't got a sunroof.
- My load cover's knackered so I'm looking for one as well (though not very actively at the moment). I would look on ebay for someone breaking a complete car and get in touch with them. If you want one the right colour, you may have to wait a month or two.
- Mine has an immobiliser. The engine cuts out after 2 seconds if I try to start it with my spare key. Also there is a yellow car symbol on the rev counter which flashes if I use my spare key but stays on for a couple of seconds if I use my main key. I would expect yours is the same.
- Don't know. I live in Coventry. Have you looked in the "Independants" section of the forum? A lot of it is in the Archive subsection but if you do a search you may come up with something.
- Well you can't blame the ignition system :D. Sounds like another good reason to get an ECU remap.
- I wouldn't bother. When I was buying my A4 I ignored a lot of Avants that didn't have roof rails, only to find that it's just as easy to buy cross rails for A4s that don't have the fixed rails :zx11:

:confused: doesn't seem to be there any more.

Chip 'n' Spin is the name one of the forum's sponsors. Other ECU remap / rolling road service providers are available (I'm beginning to sound like Sarah Kennedy :D:p:(). If you look at the sponsors bit of the forum they often have one-day specials which seem to be good value.

Well called round and found a garage that will do the cambelt for £232 I was going to do it but when they said the whole front of the car had to come off I decided against it!

The car has an alarm and immboliser but it does not sound or flash lights been reading up and sometimes the batteries go flat (In the back of the avant boot) but no tempted to have a look just yet just thought it strange it does not have any LED that flashes

I think the remote to opertae the CL won,t be too hard to source

Load covers damn good luck there i can,t find one might just tint the windows and be done with it lol

I might be able to help with the load cover. I have a 96 2.6 avant which I'm trying to decide wether to sell or break.

What colour do you need ?

Car has cream leather so black would be ideal
what colour do you have?

Mines from a beige interior so it's a creamy colour

No use to me I have dark blue interior so I need dark blue, grey or black
