A3 2004 1.6 Front brake pads change

Hi Guys,

I am new here but not new to forums so know most will point me in the direction needed if I have missed something.

I have been looking here for the past half hour and cant find any kind of guide that explains how to change the front pads on an A3 1.6 2004.

Is there a guide or can anyone describe how this can be done?

I have changed pads on a number of cars previously without a problem although I am no mechanic I can follow a simple guide.

Any help or suggestions appreciated.

I take it the A3 brakes are similar to this? Are there any differences that I need to know about?

Hi Guys,

I still need a little help here as I cant get the caliper out of the housing to remove the pads. The pad retaining clip prevents me from sliding the caliper from the housing. I cannot see any other bolts to undo after the two for the caliper itself.

Any advise appreciated.

Have you tried tapping it off with a soft mallet ?

Cant you just prise the cailper past the spriing clip on the pad using a big flat screwdriver?

Hi Guys thanks for the replies. I managed to do this in the end by using a bit force and bending the clips on the pads to get the caliper off.

All I need to do now are the rears.

Anything special I should know about these?
