Hi all, why does the cd eject from the player (factory fit vw single cd unit passat tdi 2001) whenever i turn off the ignition and take the key out?? it's got me baffled, but not that baffled to take it to the local vw dealer for an extortionate quote!! he he he.. any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Mark and welcome. I have the multi changer in mine so am not much help.
I first thought that maybe all the power was being cut from the CD player which might cause the unit to eject the CD first, hinting at a wiring fault. I have taken single CD players out of my old cars and left the CD in by mistake, so unless it is a feature of the VW unit not sure.
I have a single disc player in my 2000 TDI and it only spits the disc out when I press the eject button. I can't help other than say that mine appears to be normal as I've jst spoken to a mate with a tdi golf (2001) and his is the same as mine.
heya folks i had the same prob with my cd player ended up i had to change the yellow wire connection ito the y piece connection just swap those wires and it should keep its memory i think they are main feeds, and it should play from where you left off etc hope this helps

thanks for the welcome, eshrules, my player (panasonic) was doing the same spitting out the cd when the key was taken out and ign switched off,, and it also didnt keep its settings etc,also no radio reception till i had that wires swapped not had a prob with the eject button though, but it was frustrating setting up all over each time i started the car lol was told by a few folks that the vw wiring was slightly different to other cars for setting up a cd player, hope you get it sorted cause its a really annoying niggle, easier to fix than trying to get sound to the rear in mine i just bought lol
From what gmm says it does sound like a wiring fault. Maybe a previous owner has changed the unit from standard at some point?
I had problems wiring up my kenwoods stereo in my golf one time till i read the instructions :Blush2: It said in there that the wires HAVE to be swapped over for VW and I think BMW's anyway Iswapped the yellow wire with the red and meory was fine and so was the cd side of things.

I agree with your earlier replies with respect to the switched and permanent feeds to the unit.
One feed (the yellow I think is the permanent feed and is responsible for keeping stations if you also have a radio) The other one the Red is the switched feed which will disappear as soon as you withdraw the ignition key.
Years earlier the DIN standard was adopted in an attempt to standardise the connections to all radio/cd units, this consisted of two polarised plugs all of which will only fit one way and in one socket on the back of the unit. One for power and one for speakers.
In theory it should have been possible to change one unit for another as a straight swap but some manufacturers changed the wiring configuration from that adopted in the standard so that we are all back to square one.

You may have your two wires interposed in which case as soon as you remove the ignition key, all power to the unit is lost and this may be the reason that you have the problem.
One core should be labelled +12v Memory and should be permanently connected to a 12v supply and is usually the yellow and one core will be labelled +12v Sw feed, this one will lose it's 12v supply when the ignition key is withdrawn.
