02 Passat 1.8T Auto
Bought our 4th VW in April this year and since owning had nothing but problems. Lots of road noise, knocking and now orange warning light on. VW Customer Services no help, VW Leeds - sucked their teeth and told me to come back next week, too busy... Independent had a look and thought it could be a one of two sensors and maybe the gearbox??!! Took it to a Audi Master Tech and he confirmed it was the temp sensor, gear box also checked and a ok (. How does this effect the road noise? Car also failed to start yesterday but then fired up? Allsorts of clonking and grinding noises now and fast losing faith in car... Prev had 2 Golf GTI and 1.9 GTI TDI 150 and new Polo ........all had major problems with them.. Dad had VW/Audi for years and never had a single problem.......Why do we keep going back for more!!

Re: 02 Passat 1.8T Auto
Hi,
Temp sender would cause starting prob and should be changed before anyhting else can be checked.
As for the clonking noises, Passats and A4's (multilink suspension) wears after a while, might be worth getting all the bearing arms on the front checked inc the antirollbar links.
Road noise will most likely be the tyres, certain tyres are really noisy. If they are of a hard compound it will make them noisy.
