Which Transporter to Buy?

Brand new to this so please excuse me if the answers are already out there!

I've been looking into buying a Transporter, possibly an ex AA, possibly from an ex fleet auction. Anyway, I saw a 2001 SWB 2.5tdi today (not AA but ex Motability with full service history) with a new automatic gearbox fitted this April but I have no idea if I really need a 2.5 for sleeping in the back of and getting 350 miles up the motorway to Edinburgh in fairly decent time in or if a 1.9tdi would be more than adequate.

Also, I've heard that gearboxes are always a bit of an issue with Transporters so wonder if a new one means it'll do another 92,000 miles happily without attention or if manuals are just a better bet all round regardless of how new they are...

Any thoughts on these questions would be much appreciated.:1zhelp:

Anyway, in regards to your Transporter question; you need to tal to Paul b. He had some serious problems when he got his T5. Might not be in a position to advise you what Transporter to get but he will defenitily be able to tell you what you need to look out for.
