NO Power to instruments

I have a 1995 A6, recently I noticed that sometimes when I get into the car the clock is slow, then whilst driving at 70 on the M65 I heard a beep and the Instrument panel went off ! It stayed off for 3 miles then a beep and it came back on, this has started to happen more and more, I have abrand new battery in so it cant be that, the MPH, RPM, Fuel and Clock all go off, the only thing that stays on is the battery meter. Any one any ideas?? where do I begin ?:confused::confused:
