what should i buy

hope this is right 1st of any thing like this new to computers so bare with me!
what will suit me best ,i need a transporter must have crewcab and at least 4ft rear load area ,was thinking of ex AA vans are they any good? or do i go high miliage cheap route then if it breaks spend money saved on repairs , i need to tow 1 ton regularly .what is best engine 1.9 or 2.4/2.5?
prices seem to be all over the place no way to judge when you have to travel to view and buying on ebay well...:Blush: confused you bet
any thoughts ,ps hope to keep van 5/6 years.

i think the 102 bhp 2.5 litre tdi engine is the best in the t4 range
proof of oil changes at 10 000 mile intervals, or better, is important on turbo diesils and you want a recent cam belt change as this can be dear to do and worse if it breaks. i think it should be done every 60 000 miles but check that
mines done loads of towing and loads of miles and is still great

Generally, the AA vans have been well maintained and they are normally the 102 hp 2.5 Tdi. You do get some that are 'retired' with low mileages. My old 102 would give me 40mpg no problem, and easily pull a ton. This is the one you want. Expect to pay £5-6K for a good one.

thanks tony m and nicmas2000 for the replys i will look out for a 2.5 then ,i was leaning that way as" bigger is always better" when towing i think only problem now is finding one ,
ps does it count as a modified vehicle with the crew cab? for insurance.

I don't think so because the AA vans were probably Kombis anyway.
