Mk2 golf Heater blower problem
Hi, my blower on my mk2 golf has stopped working and also the rear wiper as well, front wipers and headlights still work. I had a similar problem not so long ago but wipers front and back, blower all didnt work and it turned out to be a faulty relay. any suggestions?
Re: Mk2 golf Heater blower problem
The wipers, blower and HRW are powered from the X relay but the lights are powered from the X circuit of the ignition switch so from the symptom I would say the relay and ignition switch are OK. Does the blower work on speed 3 or not at all? What year is the car and if it is 89/90, where is the hazard warning light switch?
Re: Mk2 golf Heater blower problem
hi, thanks for your reply, No the blower doesn't work at all although it has randomly come on twice whilst driving. the car is 1990 and the hazard switch is on the steering column and works fine. what would you suggest? do i need to replace the x relay?
Re: Mk2 golf Heater blower problem
I thought you had replaced the X relay?
Re: Mk2 golf Heater blower problem
i clean all the relays then everything worked fine? but now now rear wiper and no blower, i've cleaned them again and checked all the fuses.
Re: Mk2 golf Heater blower problem
If it was the X relay then the front fog lights (original fitment or correctly retro fitted), heater blower, heated rear window, front wipers and rear wipers would not work.
Re: Mk2 golf Heater blower problem
any idea what it could be then? i just realised my interior light doesn't come on when the doors open either is that link to any of the other problems?
Re: Mk2 golf Heater blower problem
First of all, check for ignition on battery voltage at the heater switch plug at position + on the thick black/red wire. If there is no power there, double check fuse 6. If that is OK, remove relay 18 from position 4 and see if there is ignition on battery voltage present at socket 1 on the relay plate which corresponds to pin 86 of the relay. Silly sounding question but does the glove box light work?
Re: Mk2 golf Heater blower problem
the glove box doesn't have a light, i don't have a gadget to hand to test for power, is there anythin else i can use to test for power, i'm not in the know when it comes to electrics, sorry.
Re: Mk2 golf Heater blower problem
You can buy a multimeter from Maplin for £8.
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=37279&C=Maplin&U=SearchTop&T=multimeter&doy=8m7
To test for voltage you connect the common lead to the vehicles earth and use the other to test for voltage.
