Oil Pressure problem
Hi everybody
Can anybody help? I have a problem with with the oil pressure light comming on. I have read the other listings regarding this problem and would really appreciate any advice. I have had the problem since the test drive when i bought the car last summer. After taking the the car away all was fine then about a month later the problem fired up then went away then back., the problem is not consistant it my not happen for months then other times it can happen for the whole journey. VW took it in and could find no problem oil pressure was fine and so were the sensors. The car is a 1.8T 2001 with 60000 on the clock.
Is this the sludge and pump problem??? or could it be an electrical fault??
Dose anyone have any idea?
Thanks James

That certainly sounds like an electrical fault to me. Intermittent faults are 99% caused by this.
Clean the bulb contacts on the instrument cluster and the connection to the oil pressure sender on the engine. If you have a multimeter, check the resistance of the circuit. If its higher than tens of ohms, there is a potentially a broken conductor somewhere.

Thanks JP ill try that out

silly question but are you using synthetic oil as required normal oil cooks and gums up the oil galleries etc,on most forums oil/water switches dont seem to last long and its not like they were produced for poundland

I have a similar problem, or at least i think i do! Is the oil pressure warning light the one that looks like a thermometer and flahes red? Seems a bit weird because it looks like it should be a temperature gauge....
