really, as the title says. i was under the impression i had a PD engine, but i have a friend who is arguing tooth and nail iam in a common rail engined golf, he says only the 130 & 150 bhp models introduced later were the PD engines? can anyone clear this up for me?

High Pressure Injection - NOT Common Rail
Pumpe Düse - which means ‘pump injector’ - overcomes the problem of pressure lost through fuel pipes. The injector and pump are integrated into a single Pumpe Düse unit. Each cylinder has its own Pumpe Düse unit mounted in the cylinder head and operated by the camshaft, injecting fuel
directly into the combustion chamber at pressures up to 30,000psi.
These high pressures produce a far more efficient blending of the fuel/air mix, precise control of fuel quantities and injection timings.
ok, :d thanks for clearing that up! 'tis a rather confusing subject matter for those of us who are still learning! i'm currently researching the new phase of common rail as ihave been told, this is going to leave PD engines standing as far as economy is concerned?

When trying to source a replacement head for my 150 GT Tdi PD Golf, the suppliers were insisting it's part of the common rail family ??????
Didn't argue with then, just wanted a replacement head :rolleyes:

LOL well my 'friend' had told me that anything less than 130 bhp was a common rail, ie the older diesel engine, less economical than the current PD etc etc, but that theory seems to have been thrown straight out the window LOL. im gunna do some reading up me thinks, its so easy to get confused with misleading info :confused: LOL
