Non start after fuel filter change
Hi
I am new to diesels and I have changed the fuel filter. I filled the new one up with diesel but the car wont start.
After the change I had it running for 10 secs then it cut out. I refilled the fuel filter with diesel and after cranking the engine several times got the car running again. It soon cut out. I have read on previous threads that this system self bleeds.
On top of the fuel filter is an 8mm bolt. Is this for bleeding or for refilling the fuel filter with diesel. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Non start after fuel filter change
2.5 Tdi pumps on early cars are a pain to bleed. Later ones have a lift pump in the tank ! If you have a friend i suggest you buy a tow rope and tow the car in first gear till it starts. If you keep cranking you will put a lot of strain on the starter/ battery. However, you could undo one injector pipe union and keep cranking untill it starts and it will purge all air !
Re: Non start after fuel filter change
Yes, just keep cranking in 20 second bursts and hopefully it will start. The 8mm bolt can be removed to allow a vacuum to be applied which pulls up the fuel and removes the air. You can get the tubing at motor factors by the meter. Maybe if you got a few meters of clear tubing you could suck with your mouth (but I've never tries it)
