climate control/demister problem

Hi folks,
I have a 52 plate a4 avant 1.9 tdi, for a time now I have noticed what sounds like gates/flaps trying to open and close behind the dash, this still happens with the keys removed from the ignition.
this evening I have lost air to my demister to the screen, the control unit directs the air to centre and floor vents fine but seems unable to push it to the screen. The fan is blowing ok but the air wont come through.
Is this a main ******* item ?
Any ideas anybody please:confused:

Best bet is to get it onto VAG-COM and do a flap test on it.. (see our VAG-COM section for info)

If you dont have Vag-Com, have a look through the VAG-COM section, at the top of the section you will see a thread where people who have it are willing to help others out from around the Uk,... A 4 pack of beer as a thank you normally goes well!
