Road Trip Reliability Problems..
Hi all..
Im about to embark on a road trip from Inverness to Istanbul in turkey and back and need some suggestions on things to check that could possibly leave me stranded if they went wrong. IV had all brakes, tyres and cv joints done. Im about to do spark plugs. Timing belt has been done 5k ago. what else could leave me stranded at the side of the road?
i have a 1998 2.4 v6 fwd with 105k
thanks
Re: Road Trip Reliability Problems..
Shocks should be worn at 100K miles I changed mine at 110K. Battery or take a powerpack with you. Finally aircon service from a reputable expert, not a general garage. Best of luck.
Re: Road Trip Reliability Problems..
Same car as mine rory. Recently I had to change my front suspension arms due to quite badly damaged gaitors/rubbers. If you believe these havent been changed within the last 60k then I would check them out, after doing some reading when I changed mine it seems the rubbers tend to go around 60-75k miles. Because of the suspension system on these A6`s, even if one rubber is badly damaged you hardly feel a thing ( I was surprised when my good mechanic friend said " **** didnt you feel that !! "..
Other than that... be Sure to take food & water..lol cos thats one hell of a road trip :) Have you not heard of planes :)
Re: Road Trip Reliability Problems..
hahaha why take a plane when you have an audi? i want to see all the lovely countries on the way, u miss too much in a plane. planning budapest on the way there, then down through greece and ferry over to italy on the way back.
thanks very much for the heads up guys, yeah the shocks are fairly worn, especially after a few laps round the nurburgring last summer, that didnt help lol. but I think im going to leave that till i come back, its still as comfortable as most other cars.
Battery is only 6months old so that should be ok, aircon seems to be fine at the moment, changed polen & air filters today. getting new plugs tomorrow.
And yes i seem to go through front suspension arms quickly with this car, have had to replace them twice in the 40k since iv had it but its not too expensive when u have a buddy who works in a garage.
The main thing im worrying about is some electrical niggle or mechanical failure stranding me suddenly. has anybody here ever had their A6 leave them stranded? and if so, what happened?
Re: Road Trip Reliability Problems..
I would take a good look at the exhaust, particualy the flex join in front of the CATs.
Other than that, Audi's are happiest when on a nice long road, it's stop start work that wears out all motors
