Hi,
I have a 2003 1.8T Sport, 54k miles. When changing into 3rd (either up or down) at high revs there is a slight grinding noise which appears to be coming from the gear stick. It only occurs as I engage the clutch, then it stops. Any ideas what could be causing this?

UPDATE:
Just been out for a drive to try and investigate this further. It is not actually specific to 3rd, but seems most noticable when engaging 3rd/4th. Basically, whenever you engage the clutch with some differential between the two plates there is a kind of scraping noise as they come together. Is this a sign of the clutch on its way out?
Any opinions welcome!
