I have a 140bhp 06 TDi estate does anyone know when the timing belt (if it has one) should be changed. Car has done 62k.
No fuel pump by the way should I be worried? I have had this car from new.

Thanks for that, I have a bit more to go.
Personally, I always go for 60k no matter what the "book" says - I wouldn't want to get to 75k for there to be a failure as I'm sure VW would say something like "um, er, sorry, goodbye"....
Sorry - am being cynical this morning...
Good point thanks, it is after all out of warranty.
Is this an engine out type of job on the TDi, or fairly straightforward?
I don't think so - I didn't realise there was an engine out belt change in any VW... I think it's fairly straightforward, but the water pump will want to be replaced as well as all the pretensioners, etc - I reckon about £250 from a VW specialist is the price range you're looking at.
Thanks, have recently paid out £800 for my wife's Freelander to have new belts I panic somewhat!!
There's nothing quite like driving around wondering if the timing belt is going to break.....
The mileage is only ever a safe approximation. It depends, obviously, on the number of times the engine revolves, age and if the water pump bearing starts going. If you spend a lot of time in the lower gears, it will all wear out a lot quicker. I would always err on the side of safety.
VW have always historically said 60k, that's what I always go with TBH
I tried to post this as a chart but it would not work. These are VW's recommendations, which I think are too long.
