If its the same as saloon it is possible as a diy job although it will take time
I done this job on a saloon while I had gearbox and suspensions removed
I removed the sub frame to do same
If gearbox and suspension are in place they would need to be supported as
they are attached to subframe
did you have any joy with the subframe bushes as I am having a mare trying to fit mine! Help?
I removed the subframe, and found the bushes to be ok.
I took it to the guy who failed it on the mot, and he admitted they were fine, so i put it back. :banghead:
It did'nt look like a nice job either way.
Sorry i can't be more helpful.
Good luck, Daz.:biggthump
the easiest way is once the subframe is removed, take it to a garage that has a press, hand over some folding beer tokens, and watch as they are pressed out, and new ones pressed in. alternatively, remove the old ones by drilling out the rubber so you can knock out the centre part, then carefully hacksaw the outer. this will relieve the tension so you can easily remove it. then put back together using alloy solid mounts. these fit over and under where the bushes go, and dont require pressing in.
incidentally, i have known these to feel fine with the subframe removed, but to allow the subframe to move once in place, due to the rubber being soft.
cheers guys! My problem = GSF supplied wrong ones. My local car place got some and with the help of said round tubes and a long jaw vice...the remaining two stubborn ones went it!
The best way is to burn the old ones then they just pop out and then buy poly one's as they fit in easy if you have the right tool like below

By the way i have done about 20 sets of subframes bushes
cheers RAJ
Hi, I know this is an old thread, but it looks as though I may have to do this job on my A4. I am having trouble sourcing the bushes, and can't even find a part number. Please can anyone tell me where to get some, or the part numbers at least.
baltiboys2 mentions poly-bush mounts. Where could I get these, and do they have any adverse affects on ride/handling?
Thanks.
