Golf 2.0 GTI Emissions Workshop??

Hey, I'm new to this forum and don't really know that much about cars in general never mind VW's. A couple of days ago when slowing down in a car park my Golf just cut out and 'Emissions Workshop' came on the dash. The car started fine an message was away. It has since happened another 4 times and it always happens when the car is slowing down to a stop or below 10mph. I am reluctant to take it to the specialist cars garage as I have been ripped off before from them and have heard other people with similar stories. :zx11: I have read a couple of other forums about this and they have mentioned oxygen or lambda sensors, ERG valve or coil packs? Anyone have any other ideas or easy thigs I can try first? Any replies much appreciated. Cheers. :beerchug:

where abouts are you? as the best bet is get the cer ecu read with vag-com. this will show what the ecu is upset with, but it could well be the landa probe i the exhaust.

I'm in Glenrothes Fife mate. I probably will end up taking it in to garage but I just thought i'd check and see if anyone had any simple easy to do checks that might solve it before I take it in. :beerchug: for the reply.
