0-60 time for 1.8T,

Hi Folks

Hope someone can help me. I'm trying to establish the correct 0-60 mph time for a car owned by a friend of mine. It's an Audi A4 saloon, model is 1.8T, year is 2001, Y reg. It's definitely pre-facelift.

I have seen what looks a likely timeing, listed on Parker's, as 10.3 seconds:

But this says that model 1.8T was mad eup until only early 1999.

But I am pretty sure the car is not a 'Sport' model, if it was would it not have a sport body kit? Would it say '1.8T Sport' on the back of the car, or would it still just say '1.8T'? Also, those specs list the 0-60 mh time as 8.0 secs and that cannot be right. I have driven the car and although it feels fast when you set off from a standstill, due to the turbo, once you get out on an open road you realise it isn't all that fast.

Can anyone help?

A quick search at Carfolio.com says it's good for 0-60 in 8.1 secs.

That matches the spec Parker's have as the 1.8T Sport. Plus later 1.8T models (eg 2000 and 2002 models), according to carfolio, are slower. Something's not right.....

The earlier 1995 1.8T is in the same ballpark according to carfolio.com at 8.20 secs

and if I'm correct, I think we are talking about the same units as some Audi TTs.

A friend of mine had a 1997 (I think) 1.8T and that definately shifted. Don't know what the figures were but easily less than 10 secs. Maybe your friend's has a problem?

Just compared the weight of a 1995 and 2002 A4. There's a massive 140kg difference which might go some way to explaining why the newer model is very marginally slower than the older one.

140kg is about 22 stones - Imagine driving your car around everywhere with an American tourist in the back seat. It's bound to effect your 0-60 time.

Hmmmmmm dunno. Maybe it's slower now that it's about 7 or 8 years old, By the way, I was wrong about the reg., it's X reg, not Y. But no way is it doing 0-60 mph in just over 8 secs.

Is it possible that it's a 1999 model, registered in 2000?

It does sound to me as though your friend's car may have a problem.

It may, as you say be feeling it's age, but a 7 to 8 year old Audi (providing it has been maintained) shouldn't be losing the kind of performance your talking about.

I'm sure some of the 1.8T owners on the forum will be able to shed some light and more accurate figures.

a n/a 1.8 should do 60 in ten seconds off the mark (as mine used to), so your turbo'd lump is definately not performing correctly.

get a fault code read to start off...

Could the car be a normally asperated 1.8 badged up as a 1.8T?

Don't think so - it exhibits fine turbo lag ;)
