Passat 20v clutch
Great forum by the way...
Just bought a Passat 20v 88000m with good history - Two problems - the clutch bites very high and offers little 'progression' [new clutch? -and what's this about a dual mass flywheel:1zhelp:]
Also there seems to be a little bit of play in steering about the straight ahead position -
Any ideas greatfully recieved including - how much should I be paying for replacement clutch?
Thanks a lot

Hi,
Spooky - I just logged on to ask the very same question. I recently bought a 1.8T with 87k and also have a high biting clutch and dead-feel steering around the straight ahead.
I can't get the clutch to slip though, and I have driven many VWs with a similar setup. Maybe it's a "feature"!?

I have a 98 Passat 20V with 109k miles. I have owned the car for 3 years covering 36k miles and the clutch has always had a high bite point. It is something I have got used to and have been reliably informed that there is plenty of life left in it yet. The following link gives you an idea of the typical price for a clutch kit though I am not sure of the labour to fit:

Can't help with the dual mass flywheel question (though I think it works on hydraulic resistance rather than a conventional weighted system?????) and I can't say I have noticed any steering play with mine though it is quite vague - guess this is passats in general.

Thanks for that. I'm just wondering whether to go for clutch anyway just in case it lets me down - been quoted £318.00 inc fitting & VAT - Dual Mass Flywheel £400+ extra suffice to say this I won't have done...
By the by anyone know if the VW single CD player fits in space below Gamma unit?
Thanks again.. Hope I can help someone else out on here soon!

Had mine 2 months, it too has a high bite point.

Had clutch, slave cylinder and rear oil seal changed in end [£508.00] clutch WAY better - I'll have to sort-out the wooley steering next [if possible]:banghead:
