Vag-Tacho using Vag-Com lead?

Hi All,
shoot me down in flames if this is a numpty question, but can you use Vag-Tacho software with a Vag-Com lead, or the other way round? I only want to buy one lead, and it seems Vag-Com leads are much cheaper...

I'm only really interested in getting the immo PIN (Vag-Tacho) and programming a spare key (Vag-com) for my 9N Polo.

VAG-COM interfaces do not work with VAG-Tacho and vice versa.
