Fitting a new ariel.
Hi,
I have just purchased a new wing mounted ariel for a '94 VW Golf, and was interested to find out -
a. how difficult they are to fit.
b. if anyone has any advise or instructions on how to fit one.
Any help will be greatfully received, as I have been without a radio now for a month, and do not want to pay a garage for something so trivial.
Thanks:Blush2:

Re: Fitting a new ariel.
I replaced my ariel a couple of months back, to be honest the hardest part i found was actually getting my radio out, who ever put it in certainly made sure no one was going to be able to get it out in a rush.
I ended up taking up quite a lot of my dashboard off becuase i couldnt get to the radio and most of it probably didnt need to come off.
I took out the glove box out and some of the dash below it so i could easily follw the cable back to the ariel, then had to remove the centre vents and some of the surrounding dash mainly becuase i was unable to get to the back of the radio. Most of the dash clips together and the parts which are screwed on are all easily accessibly, probably took me and my brother about 30 minutes to do in all.
If you can get your radio out easily you may be able to tape some string to the ariel cable that is currently fittes and pull it out then tape the new one back in and pull it back through to the back of your raido although if i remember rightly the ariel cable went through some tight gaps and was clipped in parts so that might not be an option(hope that makes sense)

Re: Fitting a new ariel.
Thanks brybrybry, I will try it at the weekend. The current radio came out alright, (being it was me that fitted it) so hopefully should not have to much of a hard time.
Thanks for the quick reply.

Re: Fitting a new ariel.
I bought a stainless steel aerial from ebay for about £8. When I fitted it, I decided that dismantling the dash wasn't what I wanted to do. I cut the end off the old aerial lead under the wing and fitted a socket and plugged the new aerial in there. Has been working fine for well over a year.

Re: Fitting a new ariel.
I brought a silver brand new telescopic one for VW Audi Breakers, off ebay. £23.00 p & p. The delivery was next day, so well happy. Just hope fitting it goes as well.
Cheers Neil, seems like a good idea.

Re: Fitting a new ariel.
The wing aerial on a Golf 3 is evil to do for such as seemingly minor job. Half the time the new one doesn’t work either.
