Hi everyone,
I have a 96 audi a4 that was not leaking motor oil until I changed the oil filter. I've tightened it to the max using the appropriate tools, still leaking.
It's leaking motor oil from around the oil filter area, ONLY when the engine is running.
Any ideas, suggestions?
you will have to remove the filter and check the rubber seal
did you rub a film of oil on it before you fitted it ?
failing that check the rubber seal on top of oil cooler
definatly sounds like the oil filter seal is not seated correctly.
If you can undo it by hand you should be able to sort out the problem.
You should lubricate both sides of the rubber seal before fitting. Then do up till incontact with the flange then a extra 1/2 to 3/4 turn and it should be tight, and leak free.

I have had seals sticking to the housing when you remove the old filter and when you fit the new filter you end up with two seals on top of each other and they will leak.
