correct tyre/wheel size please
Hello there from a newbie. I hope this is in the correct section. I have searched the forum but not found the information I need.
I have just purchased a 2000 Golf 2.0 convertible. Does this count as a mark 4? Or is it a mark 3½? Or a just a face-lifted mark 3?
It has aftermarket 17" OZ wheels which are not in great shape. They might be able to be refurnished, possibly.
I can't find out what the correct tyre and wheel size should be. I do not have an owner's handbook. I would like to return the car to a more original look.
One slight problem: I can't remove the centre caps to find out whether I have four stud or five stud hubs. I hope someone here can tell me. So before I take it to a garage and ask for the wheels to be removed (seller said they had also lost the locking wheel nut key! :o), I want to purchase some wheels and tyres first. This way I won't be without a car.
Then I can sell the OZs. They might fetch a few quid but I'm not too worried about them.
Many thanks in advance for your knowledge.
Re: correct tyre/wheel size please
Tobi-wan, I found a car the same on Auto trader, it has 6.5JX16 BBS RS2 alloy wheels on it. They look like the original wheels when the car was made and I've seen plenty with these wheels on them I'd be looking to get a set of those.
Nearly identical to these in this link. http://www.performancealloys.com/det...sion=196893122
Re: correct tyre/wheel size please
Excellent info, thanks very much.
I'll keep my eyes out for some, although I'm not paying £160 per wheel!!
Any idea of the offset? I'm guessing around ET35?
Re: correct tyre/wheel size please
Tobi I found this on another forum it looks pretty useful.
http://www.clubgti.com/forum/archive...p?t-44356.html
Lists all fitments for golfs.
Looks like the one's you're after are ET42, 5 Stud.
Re: correct tyre/wheel size please
Excellent.
Thanks very much. Off to the garage tomorrow to see if I can have the centre caps removed.
Cheers. :beerchug:
Re: correct tyre/wheel size please
Right, caps removed ok. Have now discovered it has 4 stud fixing.
The search continues.....
